Overview of Current Ongoing University Partnerships

The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) in collaboration with Bruce Power has opened the Bruce Power Centre for Health, Environment and Radiation (BP-CHER). BP-CHER conducts research that includes: Low Dose Adaptive Responses, Health and Environment, Environmental Monitoring, Effects of Ultra-Low Doses, Detection of Radioisotopes, Cancer Risk, Non-Cancer Risk, and Fetal Programming (see Figure 1). Together in partnership with the Turtle Island Center, research activities at NOSM through BP-CHER can attract additional leverage funding partners including: NOHFC, FedNor, NSERC, and MITACS.

Current Research Activities at NOSM in support of Turtle Island Centre (TIC)

NOSM is unique in Canada and links together existing NOSM researchers with faculty at several other Canadian universities. NOSM and TIC will have a strong focus on research translation: workshops and guidance publications will provide leadership in the environmental and health for First Nations communities across the north, national and international government regulators, and various industries.
